In a case that bears similarity to the recent events that have unfolded in Sayreville, N.J., a high school in suburban Philadelphia has canceled the final two scheduled games of its football season after officials determined young players were subjected to hazing and initiation rituals.

As reported by The Intelligencer and The Philadelphia Inquirer, among other outlets, the acts of hazing that led to the cancellation included “waterboarding” and forced contact with players’ genitals while fully clothed. The program’s varisty and junior varsity coaching staff was suspended from athletic roles but not from any teaching responsibilities. Brian Hensel, the head coach since 2009, teaches chemistry at the high school.
